Right then, thanks guys, figured as much. I've got a spare 2.5" 80gb drive knocking about, so i'll have a go at replacing the drive myself. Have you got a recommendation for a guide to follow?

Edit
Found one, sorry should've checked the stickies in the sky box mod thread.
Now then,

My $ky+ box is a little over 12 months old and the darned thing keeps freezing and locking us out for ages. even after switching off, disconnecting and leaving it. When it finally worked this afternoon our lass said she couldn't access the recordings from the planner. And

even susan boyle's hole?

LOL, that would require some mitigation measures including a shit load of alcohol, two bags, and a damn good mental image from the wankbank.
Any hole's a goal! ;)
I was gonna call bullshit, but I tried a random few and got in.
So needless to say I advised all my family and mates to change there's just in case.
I like it for what it is, it handles DivX Xvid & ISO well. I can't comment on the upscaler cos I don't have a HD TV. But it's very portable, I have 250gb 2.5" HDD in an enclosure and it all comes away with me when I'm away on business or the caravan. The menu system could be better and ...

Well I borrowed an external drive tonight and determined the problem is not a hardware one as it displays exactly the same symptoms as my drive.
Anyone any ideas, please?
Until recently everything worked fine, but a couple of days ago my Toshiba DVDw/HD TS-L802a ATA drive stopped writing to CD, this is using any application (such as NERO, image burn, windows media player, or explorer etc).
It will read CDs fine and operate correctly with DVDs.
