n00bz0rd2 24.11.2010, 05:25 The time has come! I got my copy of the game today (thanks GAME).
I've played it briefly and have to say, the game is VERY polished.
Firstly, a few screens have to be watched/skipped before you get to the actual main menu. Also, you have the chance to install the game, which is around 8Gb.
Once at the menu, you have the options for GT Mode, Arcade Mode, Course Maker and GT TV.
I had a quick race on the High Speed Ring in a Nissan GTR: Graphics - Absolutely stunning. Cannot fault the work put into the track, car, crowd and general scenery. Sounds - The cars all sound unique. Going on the past history of Gran Turismo, they have recorded the sounds of the each car and used it in game to make it as realistic as possible. In side the car (drivers view), the interior is what you expect it to be. Realistic. Probably the closest thing I'll get to actually sitting inside a GTR. Gameplay - A tad disappointing for me, but then again I'm fairly shit at racing games. It plays very similar to GT5: Prologue, but more realistic. I find the handling stiff, but I know the settings can be changed for the cars.
Overall, this is game is definitely one of the best I've played in a long time. Is it worth the 7 year wait? I would like to say yes, but I kind of fail to see the need for such a long wait.
Buy the game! You will not be disappointed. so your saying i cant go around a hair pin at full pelt and avoid hitting the road barriers? damn! il stick to ridge racer does it run in full 1080p and have you noticed any screen teering,i get my copy tmrw cant wait to be honest im using the gt27 wheel with it should be a blast. EvilBoB 24.11.2010, 06:45 I've read good and bad things about GT5 in various reviews. I can't believe that hardly any cars actually have interiors - the load times are shocking watching a video of it being played (and that was AFTER the install) but I think that's more to do with the slow ass BDROM drive in the PS3. Graphics do look good though but then so did Prologue which I was playing again on the weekend. Looking forward to playing it all the same - the weather effects look awesome and are supposed to affect the handling very realisticaly. got mine today but not had chance to play yet! Brydo666 24.11.2010, 09:09 Looking forward to playing this, will be at Game early doors tomorrow to pick up a copy. Is there crash damage on this gt?
That was my only fault with past games does it run in full 1080p and have you noticed any screen teering
Yes and no

I 'think' it may only be on the premium cars - as you level up the game makes it harder so if you crash your car into a wall at speed at say level 30 you will total your car - at level 15 you will bounce off kind of a difficulty curve
Am only up to around level 10 atm, have mainly just been doing the licences i dont know what to expect with this now. i was watching a video on gamespot and the load times looked so long and i could see this annoying me very fast.
also i wasnt aware of all this premium car stuff think its a bit cheap tbh why boast about 1000 cars but it only turns out 200 or so have been done to the best standard,
hopefully i will be totally wrong and enjoy the game a lot Yes and no

Are you smiling whilst playing? That's the only real test here. _Belial 24.11.2010, 20:04 IGN's review summed it up nicely for me
Gran Turismo 5 is a 10/10 simulator wrapped up in a 5/10 game – it’s driving is as exhilarating as anything that’s gone before, and its slavish obsession with the minutiae of many of its cars ensure it's an encyclopaedia of automotive delights. Its brilliance on the track, however is matched by its sloppiness off of it, and there’s a lack of polish that would at one time have seemed sacrilegious to the series. Ultimately its driving wins out to ensure that it’s still a great game, but it leaves that nagging doubt; this could have been a masterpiece were it not for the fact that Polyphony was so absorbed with the detail that it took its eye off the ball.
I was playing it all night last night, and yes, the racing, once you're in there is faultless, really great physics, and once you get past the crappy starter cars really exhilarating.
However, as I stated in the other GT5 thread here, the problem isn't the racing, it's all the faffing you have to do in order to start a race. The menu's, they're damn slow, and there's too many screens you have to get through to get into and even out of a race. FFS why do i have to go through 3 screens after a race to get back to main menu?
The audio as well is dissapointing, I can only imagine it sounding good if you just have it coming out of your tv stereo speakers, when using a decent sound system it's pretty poor, a particular gripe of mine is how the sound of the engine always seems to come from my rear speakers even on front-endinged cars, that's just lazy.
Also very annoying how if you try to compete in an event for a specific type of car, unless you've got that type equipped you can't enter, even if you have a valid car in your garage. FFS just give me a message asking if i want to equip a car, instead of making me wade all the way back to garage to find the car.
Online didn't work at all for me yesterday, both times I tried simply hung (fully) the PS3, i'll try again tonight to see if matters have improved on launch day.
Personally i'd give it an 8/10, it promised so much, and it nearly did, but it's wadding through treacle half of the time before you reach the parts you want to play. I'm gonna make my postie suck on my spunk sock if he don't bring it today. I must be getting old, my copy has been sat in front of me for the past 4 hours and I haven't even taken the cellophane off. Must get motivated. so your saying i cant go around a hair pin at full pelt and avoid hitting the road barriers? damn! il stick to ridge racer ridgracer on the 360 is a work of art . just look how bad it is on the ps3 . the ps3 is realy bad at racing games. and i dont expect gt5 to worth the price of the plastic disc its printed on. Plug why are you only allowed to copy 8gig onto your hard drive. Polyphony should add an option to copy the whole 30gig to the hard drive. (unless it's not an loading time issue) I've also heard that the 8 gig is compressed data, and that the game slowly uncompresses the 8gig over time, when you are racing. Not sure if that will make a difference. Similar Threads
