Strong buzz that iPad will finally get some basic functionality added on Friday in the form of iOS4.2. Fingers crossed. The Gold Master version was handed out to devs last week and Leopard updates are knocking about for devs too.
If this date is true then I would have thought that Leopard updates should roll today/tomorrow. Let's see. Hope so. It'll be interesting to see if it runs any better wi-fi wise than the current GM. I've had to roll back to 3.2 as wi-fi is virtually unusable FireBlade 11.11.2010, 02:32 yea i have been using the 4.2 gold for a couple of weeks its pretty good reverend 11.11.2010, 04:23 Hope so. In a nutshell basically disabling 802.11n and dropping back to 802.11b & g and dropping the signal interval down from 100ms to 50ms. I pissed around with a few other settings but in hindsight they caused more damage to other machines than they fixed - changing the signal / beacon interval down seems to have improved the iPhone while all the other laptops and devices still work fine steve10574 11.11.2010, 11:30 i'll wait for the jailbreak :-) I wonder if you were being affected by the same problems I've seen on the iPhone 4 with 4.1 - I found that altering a couple of settings on the router makes a massive difference! As it happens, my router is a b/g only, so no N issues. I rolled back to 3.2 and all problems vanished, so something's afoot somewhere. I know it doesn't affect everyone either so even stranger. All other idevices in the house are fine.. reverend 11.11.2010, 22:28 I've pissed about with settings and OS's so much it's not even funny anymore mate. All other idevices in the house are fine.. It probably is that beacon / signal interval - have seen loads of people with the same problems - I've got a Netgear DGN2000 at my place where it's set to the default and using N and it's perfect - yet at the folks it was terrible - would work one minute and then be dead the next, pages would only load every third attempt - changing that setting on the router sorted it out.
Looks like they've been pissing around with the newer iOS versions and they've triggered an incompatibility somewhere with certain brands of routers! kracken 13.11.2010, 05:02 .... I upgraded our ipad to 4.2 yesterday and I had exactly that issue shown above.
It seemed to happen as I was trying to upgrade 17 apps... it was a real mother to sort out. In the end I found that if you left the ipad alone while it did the app upgrade it went through ok... but try and browse the web at the same time and the connection goes mental! Reading over at MR there doesn't seem to be a 'clear' consistency with brands of routers. I'm not sure I have the signal/beacon setting you're on about in my config page. It's only a basic router. I'm secretly hoping when this gets a public release it'll magically be fixed. Brydo666 13.11.2010, 06:13 Thats the iTunes update available now, think the iPhone one will follow soon. Not if there's any truth in this:
.... maltloaf 13.11.2010, 06:21 I heard earlier today that 4.2 was delayed due to wifi problems. Might go non jailbreak on mine for a bit just to see what's what. Looks like 4.2GMb has been released iPad only. Users are reporting that the wi-fi issue is fixed. Nice. Works well and the volume slider has appeared in the taskbar.
