How has Company of Heroes not been mentioned?! One of the greatest RTSs of all time. The original and the stand alone expansion Opposing Fronts are good (although apparently the one after that, 'Tales of Valor' isn't as good). They've just started a free online beta as well.

FWIW If you have starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 as legit cd versions, and you create a battle.net account, you can register the cd keys to the site, and then download the digital versions, thus not requiring the cds to be inserted.
