Have 1 year old hard drive on it's way out and want to wipe all my personal data off it before I send it back - am looking for something a bit more substantial than a reformat and I think I seen an app on here before that would do the job but can't remember what it was.
Any ideas? .... ....

I doubt many people have a magnet powerful enough in a house to actually do much good... software is the way to go lol Over carl 06.04.2010, 02:08 Normally I would use dban but i remember once at work recently, one of the directors made a big thing about securely destroying his old laptop hard drive even though I was only replacing it cos it was totally dead. I took the platters out and shattered them in front of his face Aye, good way to do the job. I normally punch a screw driver straight through the case thus shattering the platters too. ilscuro 06.04.2010, 10:43 I doubt many people have a magnet powerful enough in a house to actually do much good... software is the way to go lol I would say hi-fi speakers are powerful enough, i know this because i accidentally left a hard drive on some speakers once, and it totally wiped my drive CCleaner as always does a good job and the data is untraceable hilljd00 06.04.2010, 20:51 This is what i need to do so thank you So does this software render the hard drive useless or can it be re-used once wiped ? B B Leo 19.04.2010, 01:45 prezzy u know anyone with a mac??? The drive is re-usable it just overwrites the whole drive a few times meaning you cant recover any data as its been overwritten multiple times. Another one I use is Killdisk .... but the free version only does 1 write so you have to run it a few times to be safe ;-) Similar Threads
