If you are 100% certain its the backup from that drive, its as simple as powering the drive, hooking up to the pc sata, opening your dummy.bin backup file, yes to the autoload of JF+, lite-on erease, power cycle, then click write...then ata outro. Job done.

Well I'm grabbing a game that I have always wanted to play but is NTSC only, not region free, and has never come out on PAL. Hopefuly it will just play now.

Right....I have just run coolshrimps jtag tool 2.20 and allowed it to flash my nand. Just powered up and gone is the old blade dashboard, and hello 12611 Kinnect dashboard.

Now I apreciate this is going to sound ridiculous....but how do I know if its worked !
Typical...its on the underside....after I have put it all back together.

One other thing I'm not sure about is I have seen reference to a link to be made on the motherboard to protect efuses from being blown, yet there was no reference to this whatsever on the nand-x install.
Is this required ...
I have worked my way through my Xenon JTAG install as best I can, but I have reached a sticking point....

Correct. Its the controller chip preventing the reading.
I had one recently brought to me, drive had died (motor I think), and he brought me the console and a brand new complete drive that had a d2nothing controller. I swapped the boards over for him and everything worked fine.

As far as I am aware, the only drives that have compatability issues (in that some work, some don't) are the 2.5" bus powered drives....presumably the wii is unable to deliver sufficient power to crank them up.
If you were to use (as I do), a full size 3.5" independantly powered ...

I think I will probably go with the guide linked from the product page on modtraders, which is ....

Though the guides seem to come to a complete halt after the cpu key is obtained.
Ive noticed prices creeping upwards....becoming rare I guess.
Remember though you only need the pcb. Theres one on there currently for ?26.99 delivered.

Sorry, one further muppet question please - which is best to use lead / tin flux or lead free flux? I'm looking at 0.4mm stuff seen as I'm a soldering noob!

Well, I prefer the old lead based solder, but that's only because I have deliberately not bought any lead free.....basicaly ...
