The one problem with Be is their shite BeBox, I used mine in bridge mode and used my DIR 655, sorted!

Which one do you have? The white one seems to work pretty good for me and better speeds through it than my Netgear and Cisco kit!

as far as I know, you can receive texts for free and as long as you don't accept incoming calls you won't be charged for them.

I'd make sure you turn off cellular data though, not just roaming mode but all cellular data

Settings > Network > Cellular Data

Try xda-developers.com - I'm sure you can do this with software or a customer firmware. They are a knowledgable lot there and I've used them for many HTC phones to unlock them
